Kamal meets Kumaraswamy on Kaala

It was a hectic Monday for superstars  Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. While Rajni was off to Hyderabad to kickstart Kaala promotions, while Kamal Haasan was in Bengaluru to meet Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy over the Cauvery issue.

Rajinikanth’s Kaala will be released simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu this week. The actor  met the media in Hyderabad where he was in town to promote his forthcoming release. The movie features Rajinikanth as Kaala Sait, a don in Mumbai Dharavi slum.

Directed by Pa Ranjith and produced by actor-director-producer Dhanush, Kaala features Easwari Rao as Rajini’s wife. Nana Patekar and Samuthirakani play key roles. Music is by Santosh Narayanan.
Rajinikanth was accompanied by Dhanush to Hyderabad. Negotiations are also on with Karnataka Film Chamber who have decided not to allow the movie’s release in that State following Rajini’s remarks on the Cauvery issue.

Kamal Haasan, who floated his political party Makkal Needhi Maiam, met Chief Minister Kumaraswamy. The actor-politician sought an appointment with Kumaraswamy to greet him and discuss sharing of Cauvery water with Tamilnadu.

Kamal Haasan greeted Kumaraswamy when he took over as Chief Minister and even attended his swearing-in ceremony. On the occasion, he said, “It’s a good starting point for a dialogue between our States.”

Acting on the Supreme Court’s direction, the Centre recently constituted the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CMA) to address the dispute over sharing of river water among Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry.

On 16 February, the apex court had directed the government to form the CMA within six weeks in a verdict that marginally increased Karnataka’s share of Cauvery water, reduced the allocation for Tamilnadu and sought to settle the protracted water dispute between the two southern States.

Both leaders refused to share details of the meeting and also whether Kamal spoke to Chief minister Kumaraswamy to prevail upon the Karnataka Film Chamber to not oppose the release of Rajni starrer Kaala
