Bengaluru Rains flood IT Parks, creates Global impact

The IT corridor in Bengaluru is facing severe challenges with flooding, power cuts and massive inconvenience caused by traffic jams in last 48 hours.
The heavy rains in Bengaluru city on last Monday left the city inundated and led to over flow from several of the city lakes.
The IT parks in South Eastern suburb of Bengaluru , many of which have been built on what used to be once lake beds were not only left flooded with basement parking lots flooded , but also the approach roads were cut off at several stretches due to water logging.

Many IT professionals working in IT companies were left stranded. Khyati Deshmukh , a techie at a Sarjapur based startup told this reporter,” the approach roads to our office was totally cut off and I was forced to stay back in office with several other colleagues. With power interruptions and internet outages, even the hours spent in office couldnt be utilized.” Khyati and her colleagues finally managed to leave office on Tuesday evening.

While for some of them, it was being locked in office was a challenge , many others who ventured out on Tuesday hoping that things would have improved, were stranded in their vehicles taking hours to clear the 4 kilometer stretch.

Akash , an employee with Amazon in Outer ring road was angry with the system. “These roads were recently developed to facilitate smoother transport, but the first big rain has exposed the engineering defect. I will be opting for Work from Home for next few days till things improve” says Akash.

The most harrowing time was for the traffic policemen in the IT corridor who spent hours trying to control the situation. Fresh lake breaches from Bellandur lake made things miserable as the water levels did not come down. A utility official at ECO Space , IT Park told this reporter ,” till now we are managing the crisis to the best of our a iloty, the real damage and impact of flood will be assessed after things come in control. We are hoping that the forecast of rains goes wrong. Further rains will make the challenge bigger. Restoration of power supply and rectification will take some more time”

For the residents of several apartment complexes in the areas neughbouring IT parks, life has come to stand still with several gated communities flooded with upto 5 feet of water. Residents of Rainbow Drive, a mini Town ship had to use boats to connect with the outside world. An elderly person died on Wednesday morning after suffering a heart attack, as medical aid could not reach him on time due to waterlogging.
