Rahul Gandhi meets educationists on NEP issue
Nirajanaradhya, a senior educationist, stated that this new NEP & Textbook Revision has caused an erosion of long accepted values of democracy, secular nature & brotherhood among the pupils & the entire system.
He said that the new NEP 2020 had been specially designed to undo everything that has been done in past 75 years. He continued to add that Communalisation, Centralisation & Commercialisation were the only agendas behind these monumental changes effected by the State & Central Governments.
He suspected that there were many deliberate & designed efforts to destabilise the education system & subvert our constitution through these drastic measures.
Poornima, A Govt School Teacher opined that the reason today for Government Schools to fall behind on success metrics was not because private schools were better than them, but because the government in itself is least bothered to provide even basic infrastructure facilities to its own facilities.
She said that shortage of teachers & lack of basic infrastructure in schools were the two biggest issues plaguing the government education system in Karnataka.
Rahul Gandhi replied to her & said that, he spoke to a few government school children in english, but they were unable to speak. He asked her what she thought about the language barrier.
Poornima responded that it was important for students to learn English & Hindi because for something as simply as bank application, is available only in hindi & english even in the most rural parts of the state, so she felt she has to impart the knowledge on understanding these languages, but kids don’t have the environment to learn another language from only textbooks & apply them in their daily life.
Rahul Gandhi was quite surprised that Bank Applications weren’t anymore available in Kannada in Karnataka. He expressed his shock when he heard it.
Lokesh Talikatte, representative of RUPSA, stated that his union wrote a letter to PMO after he came across the rampant corruption in the Education Department of the state. Thought the complaint was acknowledged by the PMO, there was no investigation launched to stop the corruption.
Instead the members of the union were penalised by officially labelling the schools they run as unauthentic & raids conducted to penalise them for complaining about corruption by the State Government.
Yogananda, a representative from Karnataka Private School Parents Association, stated that after Implementation of RTE by UPA Govt, 1.5L Kids from Below Poverty Level Families used to get enrolled in private schools of Karnataka every year.
But after BJP came to power & changed the law, the number of students getting enrolled per year has come down to 12,000 only.
Rahul Gandhi interacted with all of them for more almost an hour, he listened to all their queries, issues & suggestions to improve the state of education in india.
He asked Randeep Surjewala, AICC General Secretary In-Charge of Karnataka, if he could set-up a process of holding stakeholder meetings in order to come up with solutions to address the issues in the education system & include them in the a manifesto for 2023 Assembly Elections in Karnataka.
He then added that he personally felt that government could do much more to enhance the education system in the entire country, if it managed to pump in more money towards improving the infrastructure in place which could generate more jobs as well.
He said that our education system is under systematic attack from adverse ideological forces & that attack has reached now our curriculum.
