Mallikarjun Kharge will assume charge as Congress chief on Oct 26, Rahul Gandhi to attend Delhi event .

Mallikarjun Kharge, who won the Congress presidential election in a landslide victory against Shashi Tharoor, will assume charge as the party chief on October 26 at the AICC headquarters in Delhi. So far, the date for a Congress Working Committee (CWC) has not been finalised.

Kharge emerged as the clear winner with 7987 votes, while Tharoor managed to secure 1072 in his favour. Over 9,000 Congress delegates across India voted to choose their party chief on October 17.

Kharge’s election as the new party chief marked a historic day for the Congress party as he will become the first non-Gandhi party chief after almost 24 years.

In the first address after his victory, Kharge said, “We have to fight the fascist forces. We have to fight the forces that pretend to be democratic but attack democracy.”The veteran leader faces a tough road ahead as he is expected to revive the party, which has seen its presence shrink both at the state and national level.
ongress leader Rahul Gandhi will travel to Delhi on October 26 to attend an event in which the newly-elected All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge will take charge.

This will be the first time that Rahul Gandhi will leave Bharat Jodo Yatra since it began on September 8. The Yatra will enter Telangana on October 27, the fifth state where the rally will be carried out.
