KSRTC to begin electric bus services between Bengaluru and Mysuru from Monday

The electric bus services between Bengaluru and Mysuru will begin on January 16, announced Karnataka State Road Transport Commission (KSRTC). This the first state run intercity electric bus service in Karnataka and it is equipped with Wi-Fi and CCTV camera
According to KSRTC, the AC bus service fare is fixed as Rs. 330 and the non-AC bus service fare will be Rs. 240. A total of 12 buses will be operated between both the city and the number of buses will be increased phase wise.

Hyderabad-based Olectra Greentech Ltd manufactured these buses and delivered a prototype e-bus in December. The KSRTC is also planning to use e-buses to link capital Bengaluru to smaller towns in the state, such as Davangere, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Virajpet and Madikeri. More electric bus services will be announced between the capital city and small towns in future, said a statement by KSRTC.

As the expressway between Bengaluru and Mysuru is expected to come into operation by February, these bus services will reduce the travel time to 90 minutes.

In October last year, 100 electric buses were launched by Bengaluru Metro Transport Corporation(BMTC) on Bengaluru roads to escalate the usage of public transport in the tech capital of the country. The buses also had the facility of a wheelchair mechanism which is also electrically operated. This facility is for physically challenged commuters of Bengaluru who board buses regularly. These electric buses too came with CCTV cameras, LED lights and emergency panic buttons for the safety of commuters.
