Steps initiated to set up Environment University in Uttara Kannada district: CM Bommai

Steps have been taken to set up Environment University in Uttara Kannada district, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said after inaugurating various development works, laying the foundation for new works, and distributing facilities under various schemes here on Tuesday, he said the development that was at a standstill in India has gained speed now. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, drinking water has been provided to 10 crore houses across the country in the last three years of which 40 lakh houses are in the State. The government has achieved ‘Navodaya’ through ‘Sarvodaya’ and doing inclusive growth. India has entered an era of development and the whole world is gripped by an economic crisis. In this situation, India’s GDP is 6.7 percent. At one time, the population was considered as the bane but 46 percent population of India is youth and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has evolved the schemes to utilize their services. The youth play an important role in the nation’s development. From negativity, the country is marching towards positivity and converting challenges into opportunities.

The CM said the government has not only given impetus to education but also ahead in attracting Foreign Capital and innovation. Several schemes have been launched to address social issues like malnutrition, poverty alleviation, and inequality, and help in providing health, education, and nutritious food to the citizens. The Raitha Vidyanidhi scheme has been extended to the children of fishermen, weavers, and others. Free education is provided to PU & degree students which is benefiting around 8 lakh students. Around 100 PHCs’ are upgraded as Community Health Centers. As many as 438 Namma Clinics are established all over the state, a free hearing aid is distributed to the needy, increased the number of dialysis cycles, and chemotherapy cycles, and built 8,000 new classrooms. Twelve percent of the budget has been reserved for education. Several schemes have been chalked out for all the communities.
Terming Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri as a true people’s leader, the CM said he never succumbed to any political pressure and discharged his duty efficiently. The towns of Sirsi and Kumta are witnessing rapid development under his guidance for the last three and a half years. Opposition is quite common from one section but it will not come in the way of implementing the major schemes. Getting elected for the sixth consecutive time shows the love and affection earned by Kageri.
