BJP MLA’s disrupt Guv address in Karnataka Assembly

A stormy start to the Karnataka assembly’s budget session saw the BJP MLAs create ruckus in Karnataka Assembly. The ruckus forced Governor Vajubhai Vala to cut short his joint address at the start of the 10-day Budget session on Tuesday. The BJP members raised slogans in the well of the House against the ruling JD(S)-Congress coalition. They alleged that JD(S)-Congress has no right to continue as it has lost majority. Following the uproar, the Governor’s address ended in less than ten minutes.

Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who  holds the Finance portfolio, is scheduled to present his coalition governments second budget on Friday , February 8. While questions on the probability hang fire ever since Senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister R Ashoka expressed doubts about budget presentation on February 8. He had claimed that 20 to 25 disgruntled MLAs of the alliance were out of reach of their leaders and the coalition government was in a ‘coma’

The BJP had also asserted it was not averse to moving a no-confidence motion against the Kumaraswamy-led government.

The government is expected to make an announcements directed at fulfillment of its loan waiver promise. Recently in an interview to PTI, Kumaraswamy had said he will fulfil his Rs 46,000-crore loan waiver commitment made to farmers “completely” in the budget.

This will be the first session after the cabinet expansion in December and political turmoil that engulfed the state following the alleged attempt by the BJP to topple the government by poaching disgruntled legislators of the ruling coalition. Meanwhile the 4 disgruntled MLA’s of te Congress stayed away from the session. The party is hopeful that they will return from Mumbai whre they are caming. Even the BJP had it’s tense moments when despite the whip , two of its MLA’s Balachandra Jarkiholi and Ashwathnarayan skipped the  Governor’s address .
