Congress Devanhalli Leader KH Muniyappa resigns.
Several Congress leaders resigned over reports of KH Muniyappa being fielded as party candidate from the Devanahalli Assembly constituency for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly election.
Several Congress leaders and workers of Devanahalli tendered mass resignation over reports that the party would be fielding former Union minister KH Muniyappa from the constituency seat.
The Devanahalli Congress leaders opposed Muniyappa’s candidature and said, “KH Muniyappa has not taken part in any party building and consequently has no connection with any of the party cadres to face the upcoming elections.”They demanded that some local leader should get the ticket to contest from Congress and not any “outsiders”.
Devanahalli Congress president Prasanna Kumar, district Congress vice-president Shanth Kumar, four block presidents, municipal councillors, and others sent mass resignation letters to KPCC president DK Shivakumar.
In a letter to the Congress leadership, the party workers said, “The candidates fielded by the opposite parties belong to the same community as that of KH Muniyappa, hence, this community votes will be split amongst all the candidates.”The Karnataka Assembly polls are scheduled to be held by May this year. On Wednesday, party state president D K Shivakumar said that the Congress party’s first list of candidates for the upcoming Karnataka assembly election will be released in a day or two.
