Continental’s R & D centre set up at a cost of Rs 1000 Crores launched.
Leading vehicle manufacturer Continental’s state of the art Technical Centre India (Research and Development) set up here at a cost of Rs 1000 crores was inaugurated today.
The centre inaugurated by Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, Minister for IT/BT will function from the Continental Technical Centre located on Hosur Road.
Speaking on the occasion Minister Narayan said eco friendly vehicles would rule the roads in coming years and R-D centres of companies such as Continental would play a crucial role in the transformation.
The company will have 6,500 researchers and technical experts at the centre. He, stated that there were about 450 R& D centres of various companies in the city which contribute for the scientific and technological ecosystem.
“The state has framed transparent and relevant policies with an objective to promote industries of emerging technologies. Besides, the state was also in the forefront with regard to investment in research and development domain”, Narayan explained.
“Continental India has been operating in Bengaluru since 2009 and the newly set up centre will cater to the technical expertise/assistance needed by vehicle manufacturing companies. The quality education provided in the state would ensure availability of the required skillful engineers,” he opened.
Achim Burkart, Consul General of Germany, Prashant Doreswami, Chairperson, Continental India and CEO, Lata Chembrakalam, Technical Head of the Centre were present.
Meanwhile, Minister Narayan took a ride in the premises in the smart car of the company which op
functions with the help of sensors.
Minister expressed wonder over the technology which has enabled to produce cars which can move without any human intervention and adjust it’s speed as per the traffic congestion on the road.
