Jain community serves Bengaluru during Lockdown

Every morning in Nagrathpet area of Bengaluru city over two dozen kids , accompany their parents to the Jain temple nearby. The lock down has closed the Jain Temple like every other religious place in the country, but these children head to the community hall to help the parents and the adults in packing the food that is packed for the needy. Dutifully these children carry out the task assigned to them by the community elders to help with making the food packets.  ” The schools are closed and we thought instead of sitting at home we should help our elders in the noble cause of feeding the hungry. The lesson we learn here is as important as what we study in school “said Ruchi a young school kid from the Jain community

The Jain Samaj cooks up 5000 meals everyday without fail and ensures that these are transported across the city. A set of volunteers then load the food packets in their vehicles and move around the city . Hemant Khincha, a Bengaluru based Industrialist office bearer of the Jain Samaj and a social activist told News Basics, ” It gives us immense joy to serve the meals to the common people and we also ensure that those important people like Doctors , Nurses , Policemen , Media personnel and the Government officials are also served hot food. They are working for the society and we want them to work without having to worry about anything else.”

The Jain Samaj has been carrying out this voluntary duty since 15th March and plans to continue till its neded. The challenge however remains that as the lockdown gets stricter and the number of positive cases rises in the city their movement gets restricted.
