Kodagu Relief , Kumaraswamy leads from the front
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy stayed back in Kodagu on Saturday to oversee the relief and rescue work , has cancelled his scheduled tour to Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga on Sunday and will continue his tour in Kodagau district to oversee the rescue and relief operation.
After conducting the aerial survey of Kodagu district Chief Minister went to Madikeri by road. There he visited relief shelter and spoke to the victims. He also visited the landslide affected areas in Madikeri city.
In order to oversee the rescue and relief operation and to enable use of the Airforce helicopter he travelled to rescue around 60 persons stranded in landslide near Madikeri, said a press release.The Army team of 15 DOGRA Battalion along with Engineer task force and SDRF conducted rescue operation in effected areas of Kodagu district. They successfully rescued approximately 250 people which included more than 30 senior citizens and 50 children.
Even on Sunday morning , the rescue operation is still in progress as the number of people effected are still high.Chief Minister will continue to do aerial survey in rain affected areas in Kodagu district. If weather permits he will land in Periyapattana helipad and oversee relief and rescue operations.
On sunday morning the Chief Minister held discussion with Kodagu DC over phone. On Saturday 317 persons were rescued and shifted to safer places and today people stranded around Makkandoor are being rescued. Army and NDRF are on rescue operation. Food has been arranged for 31 relief shelters. Milk Producers Union has provided milk, rice, dal and pulses and PWD minister H.D. Revanna is overseeing relief measures, briefed DC, Kodagu. Meanwhile the relief continued to pour into affected areas from various quarters. In Bengaluru city , the Kodava associations facilitated transportation of essentials , food items and other relief material.
Social workers , philanthropists , NGO’s and others joined in to contribute for the affected people. In Bengaluru the Kodava Samaj managed to send 5 trucks of relief material to the Kodagu region. Several political parties also stepped up relief activity.
