Mallikarjun Kharge’s son Priyank wins by over 13,000 votes, receives 53.08% of votes.
The Chittapur constituency in Karnataka’s Gulbarga district has been under the ambit of the Congress for the last few years. In Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023, Priyank Kharge from Congress, Subhash Chandra Rathore from JD(S) and Manikanta Rathod of BJP are contesting for the Chittapur seat.
Kharge, the son of the current Congress President, is eyeing for his third consecutive term. In 2018, Priyank defeated BJP’s Valmik Naik, by a margin of 4,393 votes. Priyank has also served as Chittapur MLA for the last 10 years and is presently the head of the communication and social media wing of the KPCC.
Based on caste calculations, the BJP is seeking to de-throne Congress in the SC-reserved constituency. Even though the Congress seems to have its dominance here, it will be a close battle with the BJP, while the JD(S) also seeks to pose a challenge to the grand old party.
Presently, Karnataka is the only state in southern India where the BJP is currently in power. Congress’ Priyank Kharge receives 235 postal votes, in comparison to BJP’s Manikanta Rathod, who received 233 postal votes.
Congress’ Priyank Kharge received 53.08% of votes, while, BJP’s Manikanta Rathod got 44.18% of the votes in the Karnataka Assembly polls.
I am grateful to the people of Chittapur for electing me for the third time. We will give the people of Karnataka a stable government. CM face will be decided by party high command, says Congress MLA Priyank Kharge.
