Police arrest two in BPO employee rape case
t was a sticker on the back of the mini bus that she was raped in and three digits of the vehicle’s registration number that she remembered helped the Bengaluru police arrest the two men who allegedly sexually assaulted a BPO employee in the city on Saturday night.
The victim, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, was waiting for an autorickshaw near her workplace in Bommanahalli around 9.30pm on Saturday, when the mini bus offered her a ride. After she boarded the vehicle, its two occupants,, held her at knifepoint and allegedly raped her at an isolated spot off the Old Airport Road.
After nearly five hours, the two men dropped her off at Madivala, where the victim stays in a paying guest facility.
Police Commissioner N S Megharikh on Tuesday told the media the two arrested are Suneel Omkarappa aged 23 years and Yogesh Malleshappa aged 27 both drivers by profession. The two confessed to the crime.
Meanwhile the police are ascertaining the negligence of the BPO where the girl worked . As per rules , the girl should have been dropped at her PG accommodation by the employers beyond 8 pm. “We will also check if the woman’s employer can be booked for negligence and not following guidelines regarding the safety of women employees,” he said.
The Expert committee on preventing bellemarce sexual violence against women and children has sought for a report on the Tempo Traveller rape case in Bengaluru. Speaking to the media, committee chairperson V S Ugrappa said he has spoken to the jurisdictional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and sought for the report on the case. “The police have stated that three people have been arrested. We will wait for the report of the police department before recommending stringent action against the culprit,” he said.
