76th Infantry Day Celebrations at the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre.
Indian Army Celebrates 27 October every year as the ‘Infantry Day’to commemorate the landing of the 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment of Indian Army at Srinagar airbase and successful thwarting of the attempt by Pakistani tribal raiders supported by Pakistan army in 1947 from capturing Kashmir.It was on this momentous day that Indian Army displayed resoluteness and extraordinary courage and became to be known as ‘The Wall’ to thwart the evil designs of the Pakistan Army.
India as an independent nation was first time engaged in an operation against an aggressor. Infantry has performed stellar role in protecting our nation and the bravery displayed by men in uniform continues to motivate millions.
As part of this historic occasion, The Maratha LIRC celebrated the 76th Infantry Day on 27 October 2022 with traditional solemnity and gaiety wherein a Wreath Laying Ceremony was organized at the SHARQAT War Memorial to honour the supreme sacrifice of the gallant Infantryman followed by felicitation of Veer Naris and weapon display for students / cadets of Rastriya Military School, Kendriya Vidhyalaya, Kittur Rani Channamma School and National Cadet Corps.
Infantry is an arm of close combat, with the role of closing in with the enemy to capture or destroy enemy ground forces. While in defence, Infantry holds key areas of tactical and strategic significance and defends it to the “Last Man Last Round”. This crucial role makes infantry the most predominant, indispensable and decisive Arms for achieving victory in war and is therefore befittingly called “Queen of the Battle”.
