Defiant Mamata stands by Kolkata Police

On the second day of her Dharna in Kolkata , while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attacked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly “blocking the Central Bureau of Investigation’s probe in the Saradha chit fund scam cases”, she felicitated Kolkata cops with Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar by her side .

Mamata Banerjee conferred medals on policemen near the dharna site where she has been protesting since yesterday against the alleged “CBI misuse” by the Centre.

At the West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police event, Rajeev Kumar was seen in his uniform. A total of 189 medals were given out today to various police officers in Kolkata.

After felicitating policemen in Kolkata near the protest venue in central Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee hailed the state police force, saying that it is the best in the world.

“The government machinery works on the streets tirelessly. I am proud of my police force. They have dared all weather and even left family matters to serve the family of people. I can compare them to any other force in the world… my police force is the best. My traffic police also works tirelessly.”

While Addressing her supporters at the event, Mamata Banerjee said that she’s ready to give her life but will not compromise. “I did not take to the streets when you touched TMC leaders. But I am angry when they tried to insult the chair of the Kolkata Police Commissioner, he is leading the organisation.”

Defending the Commissioner of Police , Mamata said “Rajeev Kumar is not an individual man. He is the leader of an organisation. There was no warrant and they just came to take him. The real thieves are not being arrested but the honest are being targeted,” Mamata Banerjee said.

Trinamool Congress workers on Monday held a rally against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in support of Mamata Banerjee’s dharna in Kolkata. The protesters rallied around carrying posters of Narendra Modi, depicting him as German dictator Adolf Hitler.

Meanwhile the BJP’s Bhawanipore office in Kolkata was vandalised this afternoon. The BJP blamed the Trinamool Congress party workers for the attack.
