Higher Education Minister inaugurates Manuscripts and Fumigation Centre

Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan, Minister for Higher Education inaugurated on Thursday, the “manuscripts conservation and  fumigation centre” set up at the Oriental Rsearch Centre here.  This is the result of collaboration between Mysore University and Mythic Society of Bengaluru.

Speaking on the occasion, Narayan said, the MoU stipulated for  3 years   to digitalise, conserve and fumigate 5,000 manuscripts scripts and 16,000 palm leaf manuscripts is a very constructive approach towards preserving our repository of ancient knowledge.

Today, technology is ruling the world and the system is becoming more and more knowledge based. At this juncture the cultural renunciation which is being carried out at  Oriental research Centre is invaluable, Minister lauded.

Now, by using technology it is possible to protect the palm leaf manuscripts and also the knowledge stored in them. Hence, the scholars from upcoming generation should show interest to study scriptures, lipees, manuscripts and palm leaf manuscripts, Narayan opined.

This institution houses palm leaf manuscripts which are 800 to 900 years old. The contents in them narrate many things about a province and the country. They serve as a source of information about the cultural, economic and social dimensions of a specific period, he stated.

Professor Hemant Kumar, Vice- Chancellor, Mysore University, Dr. Ramapriya, Director, Oriental Research Centre, Beluru Sudarshana, Chief Minister’s advisor for e-governance, V Nagaraj, Honorary Secretary, Mythic Society of Mysuru were present.
