Kodagu flooded , Government steps up relief

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said that Rs. 200 crore will be released to rain affected districts such as Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Hassan, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Uttara Kannada to take up relief measures.
He briefed the media persons about the issue after convening a high level meeting with senior officers and reviewing the situation in these districts.
All Deputy Commissioners were directed to submit a report within two days on losses incurred due to heavy rain in these districts.
All district in charge ministers are in the districts overseeing the rescue and relief operations. 29 relief camps have been opened and around 1755 people are given shelter.
Two persons in Kodagu and one person each in Shivamogga and Udupi have died.
Kodagu has been badly affected by flood and mudslides due to heavy rain. Reports of many people are stranded in various places and help from army has been sought to rescue them. Though helicopters were ready for rescue operation, they could not take off due to rough weather. Tomorrow again efforts will be made to rescue them. It is ensured that they have sufficient food supply, said Chief Minister.
Based on DCs report the government has decided that a memorandum will be submitted to Union Government for central aid for relief works. As on thursday Rs. 237.55 crore is available with all DCs and there is no dearth for grants to take up relief measures, he said .
