Legal status soon for comprehensive development of language : CM Bommai

The State government is committed to giving a legal status for the comprehensive development of language, 80 percent priority for the Kannadigas in industries, special funds for the border areas development, and protecting interests of Kannadigas living within the border and across the border, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking after inaugurating the 86th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana here on Friday, he said Kannada is an ancient language. The life of Kannadigas is ancient and best. Kannada has the best culture, heritage, and history and the culture is the core strength of this language. The Kannada literary world has given life filled with emotions and meaning. Literature plays an important role in the culture of this language and it needs to be identified and promoted. This is the main motto of the conference. The Kannada language must be spread across the country to ensure its growth everywhere and this is the main aim of the Kannada meet.

The CM said as the name suggests, Dr. Doddarangegowda has made a lot of achievements in the field of literature and culture and has a big personality just like his name. He is a complete litterateur who has understood the intricacies of humanity and conveys everything in the language understood by the common people. This can be seen in literary works, poems, and songs. He has also made a big name in the literary, theatre, and film fields. The previous chairman of the Kannada meet, Dr. H.S.Venkateshmurthy was also one of the greatest literary figures and made rich contributions to the Kannada literary field.

Bommai said retrospection is a must for any language or culture to grow and in that they must make an introspection of their roles and then build the future. Kannada has a rich heritage and it was not poor at any point in time. This language will grow as long as Sun and moon existed. No force has been born and will not be born to threaten the Kannada language. So, they must build Kannada with a sense of self-confidence. No language in India has won so many Jnanpith awards as the Kannada language. Eight literary giants of Kannada have bagged the Jnanpith award. Besides, two Saraswati Sanman awards have come to Kannada.
He said when leaders of North Karnataka launched the Kannada Ekikaran agitation, many litterateurs including Kuvempu joined the stir and united Kannada. Siddappa Hosmani, Angarappa Doddameti, Gudleppa Hallikeri of Haveri, former CM S.Nijalingappa, and others were at the forefront of this agitation. Due to the concerted efforts, the Kannada language and Kannada are united. This came from freedom fighters. The martyrdom of Mylar Mahadevappa cannot be forgotten. Former CM, D.Devaraja Urs re-Christered Mysuru State as Karnataka and united the feelings of every Kannadigas. The State of Karnataka is fertile and there are 10 agriculture zones here. There will be one or the other crop in the state every day. In the last five years, 1.5 lakh hectares have been irrigated and the next decade will be the decade of irrigation, the government vows to complete all the irrigation projects in the next ten years.
