President Droupadi Murmu presents Padma Shri to Shri S Subbaraman for Archaeology. Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai wrote, “Proud Kannadiga Dr. Senior Archaeologist who researches the legendary places embedded in the pages of history and does a great job of introducing them to the next generation. The award of Padma Shri to Subbaraman is a sign of respect for our land.”

Karnataka chief minister Bommai congratulated the Padma award recipients who conferred the awards on Wednesday at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. A total of seven people from Karnataka bagged Padma awards this year.
The Tamate folk instrument artist Nadoja P Munivenkatappa also received Padma Shri for preserving and promoting the traditional hand-drum instrument. Tamate folk instrument is very popular among the people of old Mysuru region in Karnataka. In a tweet, Bommai wrote, “Hearty congratulations to Pindi Papanahalli Munivenkatappa of Chikkaballapur, the country’s proud Tamate artist, who has been awarded the Padma Shri award.”
Apart from Munivenkatappa, S Subbaram and SM Krishna, SL Bhyrappa in the field of Literature and Education, Khadarvali Dudekula in the field of Science and Engineering, Sudha Murthy in the field of public work, folk dancer Rani Machiah and Shah Ahmed Quadri are on the list of Padma awards for 2023 from Karnataka.
